Animated GIF as an Art Form

We all see those simply horrendous animated GIFs that date back to the early days of the technology. That’s mid 1980′s, boys and girls, a retro period to avoid when we’re talking computer technology.

More recent animated GIFs have taken advantage of additional compression for smaller file sizes, better control over cell properties, clever cell transitions, and conversion from digital video.

Sally McKay has taken animated GIFs on an entirely new tangent. She creates original art out of found and original images.

Visit McKay’s “Bestiary” page, an A-to-Z directory of her animal-inspired creations.

You should also find very intriguing “The Trouble With Oscillation,” an animated story board for a work in progress.

Not all of McKay’s work is animated, but all of it is distinctly her own style. Check her out.
