Borrow somebody’s ring, get a rubber band and have somebody inspect it and even cut it for you. Then make the ring slowly move upward along the rubber band. It seems to defy the laws of physics, but it’s actually physics that makes it work. The tutorial will explain how anybody can do this anywhere at any time.
My Dad taught me this one. Imagine, kids learning bar tricks in grade school.

The Vancouver Clowder grew a bit this week as Malika, a seven month old SBT (purebred) Savannah joined the family. After a few hours of some shyness and required hissing and moaning, the seven girls settled down and cozied up. Bengal Sheba is Malika’s best friend, being that she’s the only one who has as much energy!

Nicolae Ceausescu represented a classic case of puny man syndrome. The tiny man became a tyrant to compensate for what he felt - or was made to feel - were personal deficiencies.
Merry Christmas, Nicolae It’s all well and good that he thought he was doing the right thing for his country (Romania), and any man who could so publicly and blatantly stand up to and spit in the eye of the Soviet Union couldn’t be all bad, could he?
Still, Ceausescu made hard line Communists look soft. His totalitarian rule put unbelievable constraints on business, religion, education, politics, and everyday life. He didn’t just break strikes, he violently crushed them. His strict enforcement of personal thought and actions resulted in mass fear, depression, paranoia, and ultimately hate and vengeance. His biggest crime was borrowing too much money (over 13 billion dollars) from the West; paying off the debt devastated Romania’s standard of living to the point of unbearably severe food and utilities rationing.
For all his efforts, Ceausescu was arrested in 1989 and a mock trial was televised as a 2-hour Christmas Day special, its grand finale being his execution by firing squad (so eager that the cameras weren’t even set up until the gunpowder smoke cleared).

I’m all into exposing scams and in that light I have taken a particular interest in magic tricks - emphasis on tricks - because that’s really at the core of every scam. But sometimes I swear there might be a bit of real magic in play.
We can’t all be accomplished magicians, yet even some of the best practitioners of magic trickery can’t figure out how the following feat is accomplished. Like you, they have the option to be amazed and amused at the effect, or pony up the price of about four of grande mochas to learn how to do it themselves.
I opted for the latter, and have since discovered the joy of actually frightening people who suspect that I’m lying when I say it’s not “real” magic.

The bar scene is insane in Vancouver this week, what with all the Olympics brouhaha. Besides all the celebratory and conciliatory inebriation, there’s quite an upswing in the usual alcoholic plying by the carnally hopeful, as well.
