Craigslist Is Beautifully Ugly

I have never seen as ugly a website as Craigslist. There are no pictures, no colorful header, no news headlines, no games – not even a simple advertisement. Just lists of links from top to bottom, left to right. Ugh!

A Deep Blue Sea of Links

A Deep Blue Sea of Links

But there’s hardly a more useful site on the Internet. Craigslist has a different version for 60 different counties, and with each country they have further local versions. While English is the prevailing language, multiple languages are supported where applicable.

What they offer is FREE FREE FREE classified ads. Their basic categories are Community, Personals, Housing, For Sale, Services, Jobs and Gigs, and Resumes. Placing an ad – with pictures if you want – is simple and free, and even anonymous to protect you from too many whack jobs.

The Craigslist Discussion Forums are a great way to connect with other people on scores of topics.

You can even post your event to their front page Events Calendar. What an incredible advertising tool.

Copycat sites spruce things up, add color, consolidate headers, eliminate “adult” aspects, and splash ads all over the place. Yet, I have never seen as beautiful a website as Craigslist.com.
