Famous Unsolved Murders

About 30% of Americans today were born into a world of tamper-evident packaging. Most probably don’t know why.

CSI: Ineffective

CSI: Ineffective

In 1982, before there was any form of tamper proofing in commercial products, somebody had the notion to put cyanide into Tylenol capsules and return the packages to various stores in the Chicago area.

At least seven people died. Copycat murders brought the number even higher until the fad wore off and we entered the tamper-evident age. The original Tylenol murderer was never caught.

American society is rife with uncaught murders. The guy next to you at the bus stop or the woman selling you shoes or virtually anybody on Craigslist could be an uncaught murder. Pleasant thought.

Here are just a few unsolved American murders of note:

1892 – Andrew Jackson Borden and Abby Durfee Borden (Lizzie Borden’s parents).
1947 – Elizabeth Short (The Black Dahlia), an American waitress.
1954 – Marilyn Reese Sheppard (wife of Dr. Sam Sheppard).
1968-72 – the Zodiac Killer murders, five known murder victims.
1963 – John F. Kennedy, President of the United States.
1982 – Chicago Tylenol murders, seven known murder victims.
1994 – Nicole Simpson and Ronald Goldman (ex-wife of O.J. Simpson, and her friend).
1971-73 – the Alphabet Killer murders, three known murder victims.
1975 – Jimmy Hoffa, convict and Teamster’s president.
    1978 – Bob Crane, “Hogan’s Heroes” actor.
1979-86 – the Original Night Stalker murders, six known murder victims.
1996 – JonBenét Ramsey, six year old beauty queen.
1996 – Tupac Shakur, convict and American rapper.
1997 – Notorious B.I.G., convict and American rapper.
