It Rhymes With Anonymous – Where’s the Harry Bosch TV Series?

In the little hovel I like to call “home,” I watch some pretty high quality crime drama on my old cathode ray TV set. By high quality, of course I mean British crime drama. “Rebus,” “Midsomer Murders,” “Poirot,” and “Inspector Morse” are better than anything you’ll see coming out of Hollywood. These are detective series where each episode is based on a novel or short story by an honest-to-God real writer. US producers don’t even understand the concept of creating a series of televised novels.

Being a huge fan of Michael Connelly, it occurs to me that we desperately need one of these brilliant British television production companies to bring Connelly’s novels to life. US TV shows are rife with British actors doing bang-up jobs at American accents, so a British producer can still keep it in the Royal family, so to speak. But alas, Hollywood has the home court advantage.

So listen up, Hollywood: There’s a riveting world of crime drama out there in the form of books – you’ve heard of books, haven’t you? – centered around a Los Angeles detective named Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch. Michael Connelly, a former L.A. crime beat journalist, writes procedural crime drama better than anybody.

Even when Harry Bosch is not the central character (or even a visible character), his novels feature detectives, criminals, and lawyers who all cross paths with each other from book to book. This same-universe approach to storytelling broadens the scope of events and deepens characterizations. Somehow the reader is drawn in to empathize with each lead character, even if they are at odds with each other on a larger scale.

Do yourself a favor and read this series – in chronological order, if possible…

That would be waaaayyyy cool – thanks for the info! I read that a “Void Moon” movie was in pre-production, so maybe it’s just a matter of time.

I’ve heard that a “short” film is being done that coincides w/ The Scarecrow. It stars James Remar, Chris Bruno & Julie St. Claire. It would be great if somehow this gets to a network & they can see how great a series would be.
