Looking for Jesus in All the Wrong Places
Anthropomorphism is when we see some human characteristic in a non-human source. When a cat’s meow sounds like a human baby, or a cloud resembles your Uncle Tony, or you make finger shadows on the wall that look like Abe Lincoln, that’s anthropomorphism.
Or like seeing Jesus’ face in a potato chip. There’s an entire cottage industry of seeing Jesus’ face where you’d least expect to see it. You may note in the following examples that people gravitate toward the fictional “shroud of Turin” image of Jesus rather than his much more likely Middle Eastern appearance.
