Most People Haven’t Died Yet - But They Will
In July of 2012, the Human population of our planet will reach seven billion (7,000,000,000). This is up from less than three billion (3,000,000,000) when I joined the ranks in 1954.
Assuming that somewhat less than half the people who were alive in 1954 have since died, that would mean that more than five billion (5,000,000,000) people have been born in my lifetime. In other words, approximately four (4) Humans have been born for every one (1) that has died. At that rate, by the time every Human alive today dies, there will be about twenty eight billion (28,000,000,000) people to replace them (us). That’s in just a hundred (100) years or so.
It won’t happen, of course. Nature is the Great Equalizer. Throwing the balance of the Food Chain that far off would devastate the planet. Food and clean water will be at a premium and wars will break out everywhere. Billions will die of starvation and war. Deforestation will destroy the ecological balance and billions more will die of exposure to subsequent and inevitable weather extremes. Overcrowding and unmanageable health concerns means that disease will spread unchecked. Billions more dead.
Within a hundred (100) years. Or so.
Isn’t math fun?
