Return of the B-Sides?

The music industry is very interested in the recent movement to return to vinyl turntable records. Bootlegging is infinitely more difficult than merely downloading MP3 files. The lost art of LP packaging could bring in some new revenue. CDs that were never released in record form can now re-sold to the public.

It’s true that tonal qualities are lost in MP3s, so except for the manufactured pop pap that clogs our kids’ hard drives and MP3 players, we can hear new depth in recent music.

Of course with physical records comes physical “B-Sides,” the much-missed money-maker for the music industry. The B-Side is the garbage bin where the out takes, joke songs, and titles not good enough to be put on the LP end up. It’s also used in payola schemes and other bribes, but let’s move along…

Quiz time! Here are two lists. On the “A” list are singles released for radio airplay with the intent to be a hit. On the “B” list are the songs that were on the flip side. Sometimes the B-Side became the hit. Sometimes both sides were hits.

I’ve jumbled up the “B” list so you can try to match them up to the “A” list using your superior musical knowledge, deductive reasoning, and lucky guesses. Find the correct answers by clicking “Answers” after the list.
