The Best of the Olympics – Doo-Wop Style

I’m not one of those old farts that puts all new music in the “crap” category. Of course most of it is crap, but there are some decent tunes out there.
However, there were a lot more decent tunes back in my day. Typical of any era, there are music groups that come and go, contributing to the prevailing fabric of the music scene. One such group was The Olympics, a creative doo-wop group of the 50′s and 60′s. Listen to the dynamic changes in “Big Boy Pete.” Their “Hully Gully” started a dance craze. Often on the charts, The Olympics had a Top Ten hit with “Western Movies.” Their biggest hit, in a manner of speaking, was “Good Lovin’,” re-recorded by the Rascals and making it all the way to Number One. Get this album and hear the original, plus their other major and minor hits. But forget about chart placement. Just listen to the wonderful vocal blends and rhythms of original, high-quality Olympian doo-wop at its best. “My baby loves the western movies…” |
