It took a little research to discover that many things in my bathroom were invented by combining two or more existing ingredients. Here are a few, in order of their invention…

    Antacid – invented in 3500 BC (Sumer) by combining peppermint, milk, and baking soda
    Nail Polish – invented in 3000 BC (China) by combing egg white, gelatin, arabic gum and beeswax
    Cold Cream – invented in 157 (Rome) by combining wax and olive oil
    Cologne – invented in 1709 (Germany) by combining alcohol and citrus oils
    Smith Brothers Cough Drops – invented in 1852 (US) by combining sugar and essential herb oils
    Milk of Magnesia – invented in 1873 (US) by combining powdered antacid with magnesia
    Ivory Soap – invented in 1879 (US) by combining water, fat, ash and lots of air
    Antiperspirant – invented in 1888 (US) by combining zinc and a cream base
    Shampoo – invented in 1890 (Germany) by combining water, soap and soda
    Murine – invented in 1890 (US) by combining sterile water and muriate of berberine
    Ben-Gay – invented in 1898 (France) by combining salicylate of methyl and lanolin
    Gillette Razors – invented in 1903 (US) by combining permanent handles with disposable razor blades
    Ex-Lax – invented in 1905 (US) by combining chocolate and phenolphthalein
