What Do the KKK, Snoop Dogg, and Martha Stewart Have in Common?
People forget that free speech is not a global right. While the United States allows anybody to say just about anything, this is not the case everywhere else.
Great Britain seems to have been particularly picky about whom it lets into their country, and their reasons quite often reveal an open policy against the personal opinions of certain people.
Several Americans have been banned from Great Britain. Some for speaking their mind, others for their criminal record. Reasons related to “engaging in unacceptable behaviour” have banned the following Americans:
- Stephen Donald Black, former KKK “Grand Wizard”
- Mike Guzovsky, former militant Jewish leader
- Erich Gliebe, racist and web-radio talk show host
- Abdul Alim Musa, ex-con and Muslim cleric
- Fred Waldron Phelps, homophobic Baptist minister
- Shirley Phelps-Roper, daughter of homophobic Baptist minister
- Michael Savage (Michael Alan Weiner), hate monger and radio talk show host
To a perceived lesser degree, some of the following have also been banned from the U.K. for stating their unpopular opinions, if not for their criminal activity.
- Snoop Dogg (Cordozar Calvin Broadus, Jr.), violent punk and rapper
- Louis Farrakhan, avowed UFO abductee and leader of the Nation of Islam
- Don Francisco, Christian songwriter / musician
- L. Ron Hubbard, embezzler and founder of Scientology
- TQ (Terrance Quaites), graphic hip-hop / R&B artist
- Busta Rhymes (Trevor Smith), hot headed rapper
- Paul Robeson, civil rights activist and actor / singer / writer / athlete / lawyer
- Martha Stewart, ex-con and talk show host
- Jerry Vlasak, radical animal rights activist
Small trade-off, considering the United States tossed the entire United Kingdom out on its ear in 1776 – and again in 1812.
