What Is Your Website’s Value?

There are several website value calculators on the Internet. They claim to analyze various aspects of your website’s structure, performance, and popularity in order to give you a proper resale value.

Don’t fall for it.

These calculation sites are all over the map. They exist to generate their own revenue. At best they are roadside attractions on the digital highway, interesting for a moment but lacking in substance. At worst they can be used to defraud people who are looking to buy income-generating sites.

These calculators mix-and-match factors like:

    traffic rank
    daily page view
    unique visitors
    daily ads revenue
    Alexa rank
    Google PageRank
    meta tag strength
    backlinks
    Dmoz Categories
    other ranking services

Some offer a snippet of html code to put into your website so you can proudly display your site’s worth AND a link back to their website. For instance, here are three different opinions about SnarlyBoodle.com:

This website is worth

What is your website worth?

My site is worth $95.
How much is yours worth?

My site is worth [$309]
Website Worth

As with all uninformed opinions, take them with a huge dose of salt and get additional informed opinions. Then toss out the high and low and average the rest. And even then don’t believe what you see. If you’re buying a business – even a little dot-com operation – look at the owner’s financial records, tax returns, etc.

Here are other such sites:

MyWebsiteWorth.com says this site is worth $24

WebsiteValued.com says this site is worth $191

Glurk.com says this site is worth $386

CubeStat.com says this site is worth $573.78

YourWebsiteValue.com says this site is worth $837

WebsiteOutlook.com says this site is worth $1664.40

WebsiteValued.com and Glurk.com ask for your input, which may give you a more accurate read of your site’s worth, but also lets you cheat by inputting inflated numbers.

Let’s toss out the two highest and two lowest opinions of the ten sites mentioned in this blog (keeping it real), and then average the rest. The values will constantly change, but as of the posting date and time of this blog, SnarlyBoodle.com is purportedly worth about $660.

Hm. Better yet, let’s just go with the result from ValuateMySite.com, which values SnarlyBoodle.com at $207,647.

Which means nothing because SnarlyBoodle.com is not for sale.
