Why I HATE General Electric

I found this “augmented reality” brochure put out by General Electric, so I used it in the following vlog. Key points:

  • In 1802, England’s Humphrey Davy invents the original lightbulb.
  • Over the next 75 years, another 2 dozen scientists invent their versions of the lightbulb.
  • In 1878, Thomas Edison buys the patent of a lightbulb recently invented by Canadian scientists.
  • In 1880, Thomas Edison “invents” the lightbulb.
  • In 1890, Thomas Edison forms General Electric and perfects the combination of planned obsolescence with unbridled corporate greed.
  • G.E. has since made gazillions of dollars selling something that will burn out so we have to buy a new one… forever.
  • G.E.’s latest brochure – also not invented by Thomas Edison – suggests that they will be charging us for the sun and the wind, which will no longer be free to us.
  • I hate G.E.
